Challenge
Ferme Mama’s sought to bridge the gap between local artisanal talent and neighborhood demand.
The founder, Su Meya, required more than just a website; she needed a self-sustaining ecosystem where "local moms" could transition from hobbyists to vendors without the administrative burden of traditional entrepreneurship.
The technical challenge was to build a secure, user-friendly multivendor marketplace that integrated specialized onboarding flows (including FAVV certification) and a centralized payment structure through a VZW (non-profit) model.
Approach
My strategy was to create a "frictionless entry" for non-technical users. I took a holistic approach, starting with the visual identity to establish trust and warmth, followed by a robust technical architecture. I prioritized a "Mobile-First" design, knowing that both busy moms and local buyers would primarily interact with the platform on the go.

-
Multivendor Infrastructure: Developed a comprehensive marketplace using WordPress, WooCommerce, and Dokan, customized to handle complex vendor permissions and front-end management.
-
Automated Onboarding: Built a tailored registration funnel that guides users through essential steps, including a mandatory FAVV certification course, ensuring all vendors meet food safety standards before their shop goes live.
-
Bespoke Branding: Expanded a basic logo into a full digital brand language. This included a warm, community-focused color palette, typography that balances "artisanal" with "professional," and a cohesive UI kit used across the platform.
-
Simplified Financials: Configured a custom payout system where the VZW acts as the merchant of record, allowing artisans to be compensated for their craft without the complexities of being self-employed.
Results
-
Operational Launch: Successfully transitioned from concept to a live, functional marketplace.
-
Scalability: The platform is currently in its rollout phase, having successfully onboarded its first wave of "Ferme Mama’s".
-
Community Impact: Created a turnkey solution that lowers the barrier to entry for local micro-entrepreneurship, fostering a circular neighborhood economy in Borgerhout and beyond.
